The Institute for the Advancement of Family Support Professionals (IAFSP), developed through the MIECHV Innovation Award in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health and the Iowa Department of Public Health, is an innovative online platform that provides family support professionals with access to high-quality, competency-based professional development resources.
The Institute empowers over 45,000 users nationwide, including over 6,000 in Virginia, with 99 e-learning modules available 24/7 — many of them in Spanish — advancing workforce skills, strengthening practice, and supporting the professionalization of home visiting.

Interactive e-learning modules accessible at any time for self-paced learning. Registration and access to modules is free for home visiting and family support professionals at all levels.

Competency-Based Training
Aligned with the 38 competencies outlined in the National Family Support Competency Framework, the Institute offers virtual training under 10 primary domains: Infant and Early Childhood Development; Parent-Child Interactions; Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition; Dynamics of Family Relationships; Family Health, Safety, and Nutrition; Community Resources and Support; Relationship-Based Family Partnerships; Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness; Effective Home Visits; and, Professional Practice.

Comprehensive Tools for Growth
Following a pre-assessment designed to assess current knowledge of the competencies and recommend specific training modules to build targeted knowledge and skills, the Institute provides a Career Compass to guide professionals through personalized learning paths and, if desired, prepare them for certification.
