Get To Know Home Visiting

Parenting is hard and complicated. Home visiting can help. Nonprofits and organizations across Virginia offer free home visiting programs, designed to support you as a parent. Virginia’s home visiting programs offer free, personalized support during pregnancy and early childhood. A home visitor, like a nurse, educator, or family support specialist comes to you, wherever you feel comfortable. They listen without judgment, celebrate your wins, and help with the challenges of parenting.

What’s it like?

  • Home visiting is completely free. Parents get one-on-one attention and the opportunity to ask questions in the comfort of their home.

  • Sessions are weekly, every other week, or monthly based on the program and family needs.

  • Parents learn practical strategies for parenting and early learning and play activities for their child.

  • Home visitors and parents set and achieve family goals together.

  • Home visitors can help parents access resources like workforce and education training, SNAP, healthcare and more.

  • “My home visitor has had a profound impact on my life and the lives of my children. Her unwavering support and dedication have made a tremendous difference. Not only does she provide essential assistance like books, crafts, birthday presents, diapers, and wipes, but she goes above and beyond by creating a sense of family and belonging. Through her compassion and care, she has transformed my previous feelings of loneliness into a comforting and supportive environment. Her presence in our lives has truly been a blessing, and we are grateful for her invaluable support.”

  • “Home visits have been incredible for me and my family! I know that I always have someone I can go to for anything, and I know that my children always have a new activity to do and that they’re reaching milestones as they should! I would recommend this program to any family—I love the program, and they treat my children and I like family! “

    - Jade D.

  • “My home visitor has been one of the major support systems in my life. She encouraged me to continue my degree and gives me confidence in being a good mom to my babies. She is there when I need her, even to just talk about my successes and worries. I would recommend home visiting for anyone needing a support system and for anyone wanting to support their own family with a healthy and loving lifestyle.”

    - Danielle P.

  • “My home visitor has given me the best guidance on how to raise a happy, healthy son. I don't really have a family close enough to lean on, so the advice, activities and community has been so helpful to our new little family! We love her and this program really is special to people like us.”
